Hi, I'm Em — an Airbnb Super host Ambassador with a passion for helping new hosts succeed.
With over ten years of hosting experience and more than 400 five-star reviews, I’ve learned what works—and what really makes a difference when it comes to getting bookings and wowing guests.
These days, I work closely with new hosts, especially those wanting to rent out a room in their own home. It’s an amazing way to earn extra income and make meaningful connections, all from the comfort of your own space.
But here’s the truth: getting bookings isn’t just about listing a room—it’s about making your listing stand out. And that’s where I come in.
🧡 Styling Makes a Difference
While styling isn’t a requirement, it can have a huge impact on how often your Airbnb is booked. Listings that feel unique, personal, and professionally styled almost always outperform “generic” Kmart styled rooms.
Choosing a Theme
This doesn’t need to be complicated! Some hosts choose color palettes; others go for vibes like:
Boho, Glam, Minimalist
Moroccan, Mexican, Mid-century Modern
Rustic, Coastal, Maximalist
My own homes are themed—one is colorful and beachy with a maximalist games-room feel; the other features boho-Mexican style with Moroccan touches and a nod to Frida Kahlo.
Pro tip: A great way to start is by choosing a statement piece for each room—a rug, artwork, or even a throw pillow—and build around it. If it matches, great. If it clashes, skip it!
🛏️ Bedding & Sleep Essentials: Comfort = 5 Star Reviews
Do. Not. Skimp. On. Beds.
A beautiful theme means nothing if your bed is uncomfortable. You don’t have to break the bank—just be smart.
Add memory foam toppers to basic mattresses.
Use white sheets only—easy to bleach, gives that luxe hotel feel.
Always have at least 2 sets of sheets per bed (one in use, one washing, one ideally one ready to go).
Provide soft, breathable sheets—scratchy sheets are a no-go!
Try to include at least 4 pillows per queen bed—2 firm, 2 soft.
Add decorative quilts and throw blankets to elevate the look.
Protect your investment: Use mattress and pillow protectors. Trust me, accidents happen (wine spills, kids, etc.).
🪞 Finishing Touches That Matter
Artwork and mirrors (a full-length one is recommended)
Statement rugs
Accent chair/s
Thoughtful decor
Blackout curtains in bedrooms
Nightstands with lamps and phone chargers
🛋️ Living Room & Lounge Areas
If guests have access to a shared or private lounge area, create a space that feels relaxing and special:
Comfortable seating (leather = pet-friendly)
A large rug
Books that suit your Airbnb theme
Smart TVs (with Spotify playing upon arrival = wow moment)
Mood lighting = vibes on
🛎️ Bonus Touches = 5 Star Moments
Bottled water and a bottle of wine for stays 3+ nights
Mini fridge, kettle in room if guests don’t have kitchen access
Matching robes and spa slippers (especially if you have a bath or pool)
Luggage racks, hangers, and somewhere to store clothes
A guest safe (this is great for room-only rentals)
Oil diffusers (I don't recommend candles in any Airbnb's)
Ready to elevate your Airbnb? Whether you’re just starting out or want to transform your spare room into a five-star guest magnet, I’m here to help.
From choosing a theme to setting up your space for success, I offer mentoring and support tailored to what you need.
